Auxcide - Dimensions

A sonic "post-chiptune" experiment by an unsung chiptune master (Auxcide), this album rules, kicks ass, slays, destroys, annihilates, regenerates and recreates the universe in 4 short tracks. And then it does it again, in LSDJ.

Cut The End - "Dawn's Death To Dusk"

Post death metal? Is that a thing now? The dudes in the awesomely named band Cut The End would like you to believe there is, I guess. I dunno, though. To me, it just sounds like expertly crafted heavy offerings of the post metal / post rock sub genres with a more aggro vocal delivery than either usually employ or allow, let alone champion and herald, with sludge and death metal flavors. I hate throwing around the word "epic", but this shit really is a sort of sludge tinged death derived version of post heavy metal that is, absolutely, epic. Check it out.

Depravation - "I:PRAEDICTVM"

Hardcore music, the metal version of it, is a particular thing. A band is either incredible at crafting it, or an utter failure at merely attempting to. That's just how it is. Furthermore, it's rare for a new release to pack the kind of punch and be as far ahead of the curve as some artists, such as Converge, who laid the groundwork back in the day for what most only try to do today. But the German four man crew of kids calling themselves Depravation are one such act who manages to not only hold a candle to the hardcore gods, but also far outshine them in places. Additionally, the darkness of quality and legitimate black metal is thrown on the fire, igniting a special flame that becomes one with truly marvelous hardcore music.

An absolute potent concoction, their 3 track release is available for purchase on a supremely unique and ultra limited cassette scenario where you get either a white or black cassette, all with different covers and each hand numbered in human blood. Yeah, I ordered my copy.

If you're scared of catching some communicable disease or are a little late hitting that order button, you can get the download for free via the band's Bandcamp page. And, to put it plainly - you should.

GODINPANTS - World War Whale

an intriguing concept album:

"In a future much like the present, the Earth is host to a variety of Cetaceans within its seas. These giant fleshy beasts of the deep have long been sought after sources of riches, providing enough oil to lubricate a robot army for weeks, and enough pre-digested plankton to fill a million sea monkey tanks.

It is in this future we find godinpants, documenting the great downfall of mankind against its Cetacean foes."

Scroll - "Scroll"

Some pretty epic sort of shoegaze blackmetal or something. One guy inside a 1971 Airstream at the O Zone farm in Shelton Washington during the summer and autumn of 2011. It's really good if you're into that sort of far out black metal with all sorts of melody and epic shit going on or that sort of more twisted and distorted dark chillwave type stuff. Or both. It's pretty fuckin' cool, that's all I know.

Ars Occulta – "Imperator Noctis"

I recently read a writer from some random blog I follow, I forget which one, talking about how Italy is awesome in that it is responsible for so much just downright peculiar music, film, and art. I guess my last few posts here on Magicore only confirm that. This time around it's a black metal outfit known as Ars Occulta. Another no longer active Italian one man black metal band with horrendous production value, another such effort that is just too awesome in its success in such realms.

Ars Occulta, though, operate in more electronic realms and really throw caution to the wind with this demo from 1999 entitled "Imperator Noctis" (which is, also, the alias the sole member has given himself). Originally self released on cassette, which probably only saw 50 copies at best, what we have here is a truly epic - if horribly produced - batch of four tracks, two of which are only a couple minutes each while the other two are over ten minutes in length. Depending on where you're at when you first hit play on this, you'll either find it incredibly corny or downright brilliant. The lo-fi guitars, bass, drums and vocals against the absolute most base keyboard sounds and efforts meld in a fuzzed out blackened room of doom and, for this guy anyhow, equate to pure awesomeness. The musicianship is basic, at best. The tripped out melodic keys and dungeon vocals push it over the top. Watch for the noise at the tail end of this one, be ready on the volume controls. Nonetheless. Truly greater than the sum of its parts, you should check it out if you like vndergrovnd trve kvlt black metal in the slightest.

Amarok - Self Titled

Hi. I'm new here. I'm gonna start slooow and heeeaaavy. Like good sex.

Amarok is a 4 piece outfit from the Westcoast of the United States. They want all your weed, all your whisky, and all your soul. Doom, stoner, death, and sludge metal varieties take center stage here and battle it out for the domineering role. Only to realize that, as it is ideally to be experienced in a live environment, the mention of almost entirely vintage Sunn O))) (the company, not the band) amps as the outlet for this beast should not go unnoticed and all aforementioned horn throwing worthy varieties of metal are welcome to fornicate with one another in an effort to get you off here.

Obviously, you should buy their vinyl. It's sexy. The artwork, alone, is worth the asking price. Hang that bitch up, and when you're not listening to the record (which should be, like, almost never) you can put it in that old Bananarama sleeve you're scared to admit you own the wax for. Win/win. But. Not everyone is going to do that. And, awesomely, Amarok knows this. So they give you the option to have it in 320 MP3 for free. If you don't go to their show(s), however, the bitch on their cover will sever your balls from your body in a downtuned redlined mess of growls, chords, snares, & crashes. And you'll miss one of the most awesome and slept on bands in this/these genre(s) operating today. For shame.
