Outer Gods - "The Mountains Den" Demo

If you injected Sunn O))) with more straightforward electronics in the form of synth washes and ambient soundscape construction, while also subtracting the truly distorted guitars and occasional growling chants - you would have Outer Gods. Atlanta based ambient drone metal curators and creators definitely giving a nod to Sunn O))) and similar, while taking a slight detour down a path they've paved themselves. "The Mountain Den" demo is heady and uplifting while remaining lonely and sinister sounding at the same time.

Black Vulture - "Way"

Self proclaimed "experimental black metal" from Rio De Janeiro courtesy of the wretched creature known as Black Vulture. This definitely isn't going to be for everyone, even seasoned black metal fans and experimental music fans alike. At moments, truthfully, I find myself taking it seriously and pondering why in the hell someone would release this pile of filth. But at just as many moments, if not more, I'm totally engaged, intrigued, and thoroughly enjoying what I would call an absolutely brilliant release. It's a fine line between genius and insanity, as they say, and Black Vulture puts you to the test trying to discern where its material falls.

Most notably putting off is one of the primary vocal styles employed, a sort of kitschy screech that I'm just not very fond of. But, I find myself not noticing it or enjoying its use in certain places on the record, being fully engulfed in enjoying some other aspect of the track at the same moment. The drums on "Way" range from a sort of hack live improv feel to really well orchestrated stompy chuggy metal chops; sometimes it sounds like percussive vomit and at other points it feels so spot on and well rehearsed. Other than that, I really enjoy the sound of the snare used. The bass and guitar work sounds like blackened noisy psych rock workouts on a ten strip while throwing a party in Hell. Spastic while still very much like a heat seeking missile on its path into the mouth of a volcano, the tone and efforts here really make the album shine.

And fuck it, I like the album cover, too.

Black Earth Records - VA - Fuck Your Face (and the skull it came on)

This is a brand spankin new slamming ass release full of squelchy shrieks, guttural howls, spastic breaks, and shredding guitars. The majority of the songs are really quality grind type metal. There are a couple tracks of the breakcore variety, which provides a nice variation to this mostly porno grind release. I really enjoyed all the creative samples used by the bands, its a refreshing change from your standard 30 second song filled with your normal grind cliches. This album does not contain those cliches. ENJOY!!!!!

Spirex - Unreleased Demos

Spirex are some tripped out psychedelic and brootal stuff. I don't usually put stuff up that wasn't put out for free by the band but since these were never properly released and the band is broken up, I think it's okay.

Found at The Cosmic Hearse. They said this:

"Spirex were one of the greatest bands you've never heard of. They called Tallahassee, Florida home and in the mid-'90s they blew as many fucking minds as they did speaker cones. Just two terminally high dudes, Glen and John, with a ridiculous amount of cabinets, pedals, amps, and a wealth of spindly, futuristic riffs. John and Glen made much of the electronics they used from scatch, they were more like sonic mad scientists than any kind of rock band I'd ever seen. Spirex never properly released anything and never really played outside the southern states, which is why they aren't a huge cult phenomenon today. This is so fucking brilliant and ahead of its time I demand you check it out."

Surachai - Designed Deficiency

One half of the perhaps under-appreciated TRASH_AUDIO duo, Surachai has been unleashing all manner of calculated audio ordinance since at least 2007. His [co]sen_tasi album "clarity in japanese" is one of the few chill albums I choose to recreationally listen to.

"Designed Deficiency" is the opposite. Combining burly metal riffs, gutteral screaming and weird synth sounds with great horrific effect, these four tracks will satisfy bloodlust of the brutal death-lord who lurks in the darkest corner of every magical soul.

Oh and he will be performing at this 10/09/24-25:
