Mr. Jay Watson, purveyor of the mighty Placenta Recordings, drops another AWESOME psychedelic noise bomb on our collective dome piece under his "i will eat you" alias Dental Work. A definite must listen for your hallowed parties this eve! ch3k 1t!
The Second Annual Tunnel to the Underground compilation. Featuring tracks by many Magicore regulars including, tooth_eye, hlo, toxic chicken, Pollux, I Killed Techno, DJ KAOS, Ethnomite Pux, and many many more. A whopping 2 Discs worth of material to keep you going like scenester energizer bunny. ch3k 1t my NuGgZ!
One man "cybergrind" project by Alex Mitchell. The first track is far too melodic to be any kind of grind, but that doesnt mean its bad. Far from it, its a very bassy melodic tune that hints at the melodic elements that appear later in the release. These melodic bits are much like melancholic isles in an inlet of cybergrind gusts, tides of techno dittys, and chiptune squalls.
"Originally released on November 15, 2009, this is a full remastering and tweaking of The Drifting Classroom.
This concept album is based on the manga of the same name by the legendary Kazuo Umezu. It is currently in print in its entirety courtesy of Viz Media."
An album Originally given to the awesome Love Torture Records, but due to a long hiatus, Altered States Reflections, run by Jared Balogh aka Trans Atlantic Rage, was kind enough to release this short and swayze crazy split. Breakcore, Odd Ball Noise, Dance from the Orient, and an appearance by the mysterious musical traveler [tlr].
West Coast funeral doom metal of the highest caliber. 3 seven to nine minute numbers here on their 2011 pay whatever (with no minimum) demo download. If you were feelin' that Amarok joint I posted for my first contribution here on Magicore, then this is easily right up your alley. Heavy, foreboding, painful dirges of epic doom metal.
Here's a quick session of some electronics infused industrialized grindcore for that ass courtesy of Capre Morte and the ever incredible Braincore netlabel. It hits quick, but it hits hard. Get your safety gear on, boys & girls.
From the ubertronic Bottle Imp label comes a free ambient release by Daniel Tuttle. This is a simple ten minute ambient work, and is free or "name your own price".
Albums are currently being put together for release on Bottle Imp by Bramble and Amnion. Also, Blaerg is working on some new material. Be sure to grab his last record, "Everything Was Altered" (for free or "name your own price") if you haven't yet.
Look at that fucking bad ass. He's bad ass. So is this music. Somewhere in the realms of doom metal and sludge, Six Dead Horses hold court. Waving a battle ax to end all battle axes, Six Dead Horses swing their heavy weapon and lob heads into piles on the daily, son. Large atmosphere and huge riffs, all at once cavernous and swampy. With a name like "Horn, Tusk, Antler", you know you're about to get your metallic guts gorged clean from your body with the first listen. Featured on the ever awesome Lurker's Path blog, you basically suck if you don't check this one out.
I recently read a writer from some random blog I follow, I forget which one, talking about how Italy is awesome in that it is responsible for so much just downright peculiar music, film, and art. I guess my last few posts here on Magicore only confirm that. This time around it's a black metal outfit known as Ars Occulta. Another no longer active Italian one man black metal band with horrendous production value, another such effort that is just too awesome in its success in such realms.
Ars Occulta, though, operate in more electronic realms and really throw caution to the wind with this demo from 1999 entitled "Imperator Noctis" (which is, also, the alias the sole member has given himself). Originally self released on cassette, which probably only saw 50 copies at best, what we have here is a truly epic - if horribly produced - batch of four tracks, two of which are only a couple minutes each while the other two are over ten minutes in length. Depending on where you're at when you first hit play on this, you'll either find it incredibly corny or downright brilliant. The lo-fi guitars, bass, drums and vocals against the absolute most base keyboard sounds and efforts meld in a fuzzed out blackened room of doom and, for this guy anyhow, equate to pure awesomeness. The musicianship is basic, at best. The tripped out melodic keys and dungeon vocals push it over the top. Watch for the noise at the tail end of this one, be ready on the volume controls. Nonetheless. Truly greater than the sum of its parts, you should check it out if you like vndergrovnd trve kvlt black metal in the slightest.
From the genius fucking mind of J. Randall comes 24 hours of continuous live analog power electronics, and yes 24 hours worth of it. Out now for free on Grindcore Karaoke
"All these recordings were created by simply patch wiring guitar FX boxes into a self-sustaining sound loop and manipulating the feedback rushing through them. I used absolutely no instruments (synthesizers, guitar, microphones, samplers) as source for any of these recordings. Even though I had a computer I was still recording to either VHS cassette or to minidisc due to concerns with PC hang ups and crashing."
It's always tight when a record label is cool. Peace And Quiet Records is one such label. DIY to the fullest, their website is painfully minimal. It's somehow fitting. Anyhow, this is a new release on their label from a blackened punk act known as Willing Feet. Available as a 7" slab of vinyl, apparently, it leaked to the internet and the label says on their most recent update: "may as well just go download it from whatever blog it’s on." Do them a solid, though, whydontcha, and buy the record and shit. It's super fucking good.
This is Ossarium, a one man black metal band crafted by a person calling himself Lord Chaos Mysterii. Quite the moniker. This is his demo as Ossarium, the only release under that name from him. He spearheaded another one man black metal band called Mysteries which had a single release that is also no longer functioning and he's still in the active Putrid Flesh black metal act (who, incidentally, have the most far out corpse paint in the game, truly innovating the black metal world, ohno!), doing most of the work himself there, too. I've heard none of the material aside from this 11 year old demo entitled "Soul Eclipse".
The production value on this release is abysmal, at best. But it's so perfect. This is a truly underground and cult as fuck release for black metal. Odd timing in it's appearance on my shuffle list today, as I spent the afternoon watching a really crappy rip of the "Until The Light Takes Us" black metal documentary. This release has that whole uber depraved menacing vibe to it, this guy would probably burn churches and murder people.
New release by PERICLES called Sun Beams filled to the brim with the shimmery slick glitchy whompyness he is known so well for. Elves and triangle seekers are encouraged to lend their ears to this solar excursion.
I came across this compilation of Portuguese industrial projects (circa 2008) quite a while ago and thought I posted it but I guess I didn't. It's good, shows the diversity of a genre that is often pigeonholed.
The mostly noise label Flaccid Plastic Records provides a massive surprise with this underground hip hop release. DeepNSpace have a vibe on their track, "Damon Wayans", that reminds me of the immortal Binary Star. Thats an indicator of greatness in my book. If you like real hip hop, peep!
The good people at UpItUp always seem to bring the hottest shit I have ever heard, and this album is no different. Global Goon stuffs you in a bag and takes you on a journey through time and space.
Freaking awesome: "a collection of some of my personal favorite tracks from the Beatmania IIDX series of rhythm games. by no means definitive or exhaustive, just a fun compilation!" -Renard
"When rough metal meets hard electronics... This amazing mixture created by the 2 men band from Lille (France) Mind Muncher contains dubcore / harddrum / breakcore beats, complex metal vocal work & other instruments like metal guitar, free jazz saxophone or noise synths. Fans of Eustachian, Drumcorps, Whourkr or Mike Patton vocal performances, you should appreciate this really good release." - Otto Psy [NKS International]
On some internet travels last night I stumbled across this logo and did a bit of research to find the band. I simply had to. Look at that logo. I mean. Come on. Pleasantly surprised to hear some pretty well executed black metal when I got to the goods. And for free? KVLT! Not outstanding production values, unless we're talking about self produced underground black metal. Which we are. It's pretty fuzzed out, could be a little bit moreso for my tastes, and melodic while still being raw and brutal and evil.
Both are fucking great, both are fucking free. Start with the self titled and move to the recent release. Listen to them both. They're from Toronto. Go see them if you can. Check out how fucking unreal and sick that logo is.
Sole has been putting righteous fire in my belly from close to 10 years now. You could say Sole is a modern day Bob Dylan, but when i compare the two in my mind, Bob Dylan seems nothing more than a close mouthed conformist. These are songs for a "dead", "lazy", "ignorant" generation.
Soleone.org says:
A 23 track mixtape of songs about economic issues covering 10 years of my career. Featuring tracks with, Sollillaquists of Sound, Lil B, Astronautalis, Pictureplane, Odd Nosdam, B. Dolan, Mac Lethal, Buddy Peace, Time, Jared Paul, and the pedestrian. Although the movement has already been dubbed “The American Autumn,” its “The Fall” that I’ve been documenting. Despite what “economists, lobbyists, and experts” have been telling us over the past 20 years the project of “American empire” could only end like all other empires in history… in Collapse.
Like the Folk aesthetic of protest songs that have inspired this work, this music serves as discourse, diatribe & documentation. For the first time in history, we have a global civilization… Corn in the Midwest being used for Ethanol effects the price of tortillas in Bolivia… A border dispute in the Middle East can bring down the World Trade Center… A mortgage bubble bursting in Phoenix can bring down the economy of Greece… And this is only the beginning.
For the first time in my life I’m watching a generation which has largely been written off as “lost” stand up and demand to have its best interests represented in the halls of the capitol. Who knew that our project of spreading democracy in the middle east would have thereverse colonizing effect? The actions in Egypt, Tunisia, & Libya serve as lessons to us all, hopefully we won’t have to call in China for air support.
I've been talking this shit for a decade. I felt it would be fitting to compile all the songs I made that touch on economic issues and throw em together for a free download. Here they are.
This is a free download with an option to make a donation. A few of the beats on here I do not make any claim to copyright ownership of, so for legal purposes, any $ that is given is for the labour I have put in, not the music itself.
Found these guys on youtube and all I could find was this sick live set. I believe they are from Israel and have an upcoming album which we look forward to.
Strangeview Productions is this weird little thing that the dude Ctrl.Alt.Delete / Sravana108 / etc tipped me off to some time ago. It's a bunch of cut'n'paste, drone, and noise shit, and I'm not sure what else to say about it, really. From what I can gather, dude is just some ultra-nerd that happened to make some weird noise/etc music in the early 00s, who then put it up on the internet and kind of forgot about it for the last 6 or 7 years. The website is outdated, there's very little information to be had about this guy, and the shit is just brilliant. Go figure.
Most of it is single ~128kbps MP3 downloads created before the advent of high quality files and ID3 tag popularity/standard, but get to downloading. This is a special treat.
James Doesn't Exist releases a fast and brutal new release with Torn Flesh Records. 11 speedy, aggravated assualts on your ear drums in about 10 minutes of an audio slasher flick. Theres a reason this is the second James Doesnt Exist post on Magicore in under a months time. Find out why. ch3k 1t!
Two relative new comers to the Noise scene, Izfernor and World Surround, put another notch on their respective belts with their Apikoros offering. A split album and collaborative effort, Apikoros plays like a recording of a live bands sound check. To some that way sound an insult, but is not meant as such in anyway. On the contrary, the accidental guitar, feedback washes, and other seemingly random players in this piece subtlety hint at the organized creative whole that is Apikoros. An appropriate listen for solitary contemplation, best listened to on headphones.
If you enjoy this release, be sure to contact the artists on facebook for a hard copy. you can reach them here: Izfernor on Facebook
I could write about the man behind Gnaw Their Tongues for quite a long while. I won't, though. I'll keep it simple, because simply put - you need to hear everything this guy has had a hand in. His name is Mories and he is the main man behind Gnaw Their Tongues, Aderlating, De Magia Verterum, and many other things. Everything is evil and dark, most of it operating in some niche corner of the black metal world. I'll start you off with the nearly 4 year old but still painfully relevant freely downloadable "My Womb Is Barren" EP from 2008, with hopes that you will put forth your dollar for the rest of his works. Remastered and re-released materials are sprouting up among underground labels, and you can get most of his output digitally on his Bandcamp page.
"This mix was supposed to be used to promote the party “THIS IS NOT A RAVE” by So Simple last September. It was going to feature: Broken Note, Richard Devine, Surachai, WMX, Ted Nava, Derek Michael, Baseck and Strangeloop. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances the party never happened and this mix just sat on a hard drive. Now you can blast it at home with your friends and dream of what it could of been… PARTY ON REBEL WARRIOR!" -Baseck
Pissed the fuck off electronic grind punk with a ton of IDM influence. Out for free on Wildness Records. Hailing from the French west side of Brittany with Ukrainian and Belgian origins Brat brings you The Brat Experience which features 8 sick tracks that pretty much covers everything to fulfill your needs.
Hlo and Pollux grace us with a beautifully noise filled ambient offering. Haunting synth washes wet down the indigenous glitch packs, slating their thirst before night fall. This is ambient savannah music for glitches.
Raw, gritty, pulsing... like a filthy dick fucking a stripper's pussy. Well, the band is named Stripper Pussy, so kudos to them for being true to their name. DIrty synths conspire with mid ranged pitch screaming, distortion permeates the recordings, leaking from every component.Radio Therapy tagged them as Screamo, but there is little self absorbed whining here. Nasty, raw, and unforgiving. ch3k 1t!
